Choosing the best MMO game to play can be tough. Here is our list of the top MMORPG games of 2012 based on gameplay, graphics, community and cost.
Top MMORPG 2012 Games List: Best Pay to Play MMO
Alright, so most likely World of Warcraft will continue to dominate the Western pay-to-play MMORPG market but we are pretty sure almost everyone has already head of WoW by now so it would be foolish to cite World of Warcraft as our top recommendation. WoW is getting pretty old now and we think its time to talk about the other great titles out there. So here are our top picks:
Rift – yes, this is our current favorite because it has topnotch graphics and fun gameplay. The community is also pretty nice and we love to play Rift all day long. Although Rift is a subscription game, there is a free-to-play version called “Rift Lite” which allows new players to try it out with no time limit or purchase needed. You don’t have to register a credit card either. Check it out here – Rift [Download from Amazon.com]
Eve Online – the perennial favorite of MMO gamers, Eve Online is a futuristic 3D MMORPG set in space. What sets this apart from other cookie-cutter titles are the sandbox features that allow for a thriving player economy and player-run corporations where anything goes. The Secret World – newly launched this year, The Secret World is different from other MMORPGs in that it is set in the modern-day world. Players explore real world locations while battling creatures of myth and legend, from vampires to werewolves, to gigantic metal golems and undead dinosaurs. Join one of three secret societies in the game and cooperate with others to bring down your enemies in massive PvP battles. Get it here from Amazon – The Secret World [Download and 30 Days Free]
TERA – aka The Exiled Realm of Arborea, currently one of the top MMOs in 2012, TERA has been praised for its action combat content which is very good for people who are tired of the regular auto-attack combat style in other titles. TERA might be what you are looking for if you want a game that is exciting and different. Cheap digital download link on Amazon – Tera Online. Right now there is an amazing 80% sale! (disclaimer: sales do not last forever so if its not 80% off anymore it’s not our fault)
Top MMORPG 2012 Games List: Best Free to Play MMO
There are a lot of good f2p MMOs but which one is the best? Here’s our answer.
Shaiya – addictively fun, Shaiya has beautiful 3D graphics, lots of good content and faction vs faction gameplay, for those who like that type of PvP. The best thing about Shaiya is that it is very easy to learn. In fact, it even comes in four difficulty modes from easy to ultimate which means even beginners will find it fun while even the most advanced or hardcore players will still find it sufficiently interesting in the harder modes. The community is very friendly and helpful since most players tend to level up in groups, including by going dungeon raiding with friends. This is a great choice of a free MMORPG for the social gamer.
Forsaken World – a 3D fantasy MMORPG with incredibly detailed graphics are actually better than some p2p titles, especially the armor and elaborate character costumes. More than just pretty visuals though, Forsaken World offers a top quality, polished gaming experience with tons of content. One of the things we like most about FW is that you can trade in-game currency for premium currency so you can buy things at the cash shop without having to spend any actual cash.
Perfect World International – a top quality big-budget fantasy MMORPG with 3D graphics. Players can look forward to top-of-the-line game design and a beautiful virtual world that is one of the largest ever created, with six races, eight archetypes, 28 classes plus and amazing 2,000+ quests. The developers have recently released several massive content updates that have been well received by the players so we expect that PWI will continue to improve and remain at the top of our list of the best MMORPGs of 2012.
